Nightlights

I went back to work after checking up on our staff’s equipment. The two patients beside my “client” were ordinary citizens at the National Health Insurance ward. Just as my colleagues went out of the door, the patients complained,
“Ah, your colleagues are awful. That man is really old, not only do they chain him to the toilet, they also don’t allow him to turn the lights off!“
“That’s right! That’s right! It’s too bright. The moving of the chains are so noisy. It is making us sleepless. You are much nicer. Unchain him and turn the lights off!”
My client laid weakly on his bed and looked at me, yet  I could only flash him an awkward smile.
Of course it would be best if we could provide as much convenience for other patients by keeping it low, but I have no choice. For even if it were a high-security ward with iron doors and CCTV, we would have to seek permission from ask the chief of service center to unchain our patients. Not to mention this ward allows anyone to enter and leave freely. Even if I put the possibility of escaping prisoners aside, I would get into a lot trouble if my chief learns about it.
My client was weak. He fell asleep under the glaring nightlights, and thankfully did not get up to use the bathroom, which would otherwise have caused me a lot of problems.
All I can do is pray for you. Take care, senior!
