Fountain Pen & Marker 2014.01.20.
Inmates take showers according to the given time table. Water bills and water pressure concern the prison, therefore, water is supplied to different areas per time. Every unit takes turns to shower, at least the higher stories and the lower ones can’t shower at the same time, which is to prevent water shortage.
When one sweats after a summer shower, there is no chance to have another one. Whereas, hot water is only supplied in the temperature under 20 degrees Celsius and everyone is entitled to one bucket. To experience the ruthlessness in rationing, one should come to a prison.
Naturally they wash clothes during shower. They hand wash, wring dry and hang them on their cell walls during the lockdown days. In some units, assigned laborer hang all inmates’ clothes in one place. Electric fans are used on rainy days. Damp clothes are constant.
They luck out today to have a sunny day in Yilan in the winter. Two laborers are distributing laundry powder and clothes.
