Return to Normal
Fountain Pen Drawing, 2016.02.15.

“Time to unlock!” I shout at the top of my lungs when the clock strikes eight. Inmates, sitting in their wards, note it’s the end of the Chinese New Year. Covert gambling would have been inevitable. What’s also inevitable is the winners are going after their money while the losers are “fleeing to freedom” - i.e. dodging debt by moving to a different workshop. The definitely inevitable is the “earthquake” (safety check and cell search), which may keep us busy way into the Lantern Festival. Such is likely the annual return-to-normal activities in the prison!
